The knight’s tale – 7

-1- نائٹ کی کہانی:

بہادری اور زندگی میں بلند مقاصد کے حامل نائٹ کو احتراماََ سب سے پہلے کہانی سنانے کے لئے کہا گیا – نائٹ نے شعری وزن اور بحر میں شجاعت پر مبنی ایک رومانی کہانی سنائی- یہ یونان کے شہر تھیبن ( THEBAN) کے دو جواں سال بہادر سُورماؤں ، آرسائٹ اور پالامون کا قصہ ہے-

آپس میں کزن ، دونوں سُورما، ایتھنز کے بادشاہ تھیسیوز/THESEUS کی سالی ایمیلی کی محبت میں دل ہار بیٹھے تھے-

Once upon a time, old stories tell us,
There was a duke whose name was Theseus.
Of Athens he was lord and governor,
And in his time was such a conqueror

یہ دونوں جوان ایک بار کسی جنگ میں ہارنے کے بعد قیدی بنا لئے گئے- قید خانے کی ایک کھڑکی شاہی باغیچے میں کھُلتی تھی- جہاں بادشاہ کی حسین ملکہ اور ملکہ کی پھولوں جیسی خوبصورت بہن ٹہلنے آیا کرتی تھیں- بادشاہ کی سالی باغیچے سے پھول چُنا کرتی تھی- بس کیوپڈ نے تیر چلایا اور دل گھائل ہوگیا-

So year by year it went, and day by day,
Until one morning it befell in May
That Emily, a fairer sight to see
Than lilies on a stalk of green could be,
And fresher than the flowers May discloses–
Her hue strove with the color of the roses
Till I know not the fairer of the two–

اب جواں مردی کی آزمائش کا مرحلہ تھا- بادشاہ کے رائے کے مطابق، ایک سال تک لشکر تیار کرنے کے بعد وہ دونوں ایک دوسرے کے مدِّ مقابل آئے، ایک مارا گیا اور دوسرے کو اپنی محبت نصیب ہوئی- پالامون نے بڑی شان و شوکت سے شہزادی ایمیلی سے شادی کی-

Wedding of Palamon and Emelye

Original text:
Bitwixen hem was maad anon the bond
That highte matrimoigne or mariage,
By al the conseil and the baronage.
And thus with alle blisse and melodye
2240 Hath Palamon ywedded Emelye;
And God, that al this wyde world hath wroght,
Sende hym his love that hath it deere aboght,
For now is Palamon in alle wele,
Lyvynge in blisse, in richesse, and in heele,
2245 And Emelye hym loveth so tendrely,
And he hir serveth al so gentilly,
That nevere was ther no word hem bitwene,
Of jalousie, or any oother teene.
Thus endeth Palamon and Emelye,
2250 And God save al this faire compaignye! Amen.

Translation:
The two at once were joined in the grand
And holy union that is known as marriage
Before the council and the baronage.
And so amid much bliss and melody
Has Palamon been wed to Emily;
So God on high, who all this world has wrought,
Has sent to him his love so dearly bought.
Now Palamon had all that’s known as wealth,
To live in bliss, in richness and in health;
And Emily loved him so tenderly,
And he served her with such nobility,
That not one word between this man and wife
Would ever be of jealousy or strife.
So ended Palamon and Emily,
And God save all this lovely company! Amen.

نائٹ کی کہانی تقریباََ 2240 سطور پر مشتمل ہے جس میں بے جِگری، بہادری اور معرکہ آرائی کا ذکر سُن کر تمام مسافر عَش عَش کر اُٹھے . . . . کہ واقعی دلبری تو یہی ہے کہ جس کو چاہا جائے اُس کی خاطر ہر چیز قربان کردی جائے، اور بےخوف ہو کر انتہا تک چلے جانا بزدلوں کا شیوہ نہیں- بہادری اور شجاعت بہت عظیم اوصاف ہیں- اس موضوع پر فلم بھی بن چُکی ہے لیکن اگر وہ فلم چاوسر صاحب دیکھ لیتے تو رُوٹھ جاتے کہ فلم کی کہانی ِ چاوسر کی اصل کہانی سے بہت فرق ہے-

اِسی اثنا میں ملّر نے ہنگامہ کھڑا کر دیا کہ اگلی کہانی وہ سنائے گا –
